Andy's Vacation to
Visit his Sister Carol
and Her Family in Adirondack Mountians, New York
Thursday 9/3/2009 to Thursday 9/10/2009
Fixing the Sunfish then Andy sailing it
Carol unmooring swamped Sunfish on first day -- 9/4/09
After much effort draining all the water out of the hull, Carol, Jim, Nick and Andy placed it on these sawhorses -- 9/5/09
A new rupture in the hull which Carol fixed with black plastic -- 9/5/09
An air compressor which Chris lent
us so we could first cover the hull with soapy water, then blow high pressure
air into the hull to see exactly where it leaked out. Carol found a small
leak at one end of the crack we filled
in the photo two above. Nick told us that Chris told him that all the old
Sunfishes he fixed always had leaks at the
front and back of the centerboard slot, so we put plastic there too. -- 9/6/09
The first day Andy successfully launched and sailed the Sunfish was Carol's birthday -- 9/7/09
Andy sailed north to the island with the pirate statue and the stone lighthouse -- 9/7/09
Returning from that island -- 9/7/09
The next day was much calmer, but Andy got the neighbor to the north to take two photos of him in the boat -- 9/8/09
The third day, 9/9/09, there was
a lot more wind from the north. Andy got no photos, but went out four times.
The second time
a large gust totally capsized him, but he was able to sail back to Carol's,
bail the Sunfish, and sail it to the northern part of Glen Lake
past both of the islands.
